The United States Federal Government is the largest single customer on earth. Their needs span through hundreds of different agencies and they issue 1,000's of new solicitations every day. The process by which the government makes purchases is tightly defined in the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). In general, the FAR stipulates that purchases be made through a process of fair and open competition. The Buy American Act further limits as many purchases as possible to American made products purchased from domestic US based companies.

A key part of this procurement process is the requirement that virtually all needs be expressed in a solicitation and posted in a public place. Almost all solicitations are posted two government sites.

DLA Virtually all of the material needs of the Department of Defense are posted on the Defense Logistics Agency's DIBBS site. This includes parts for weapons, vehicles, etc.

sam Most all other government agencies post solicitations on SAM.gov. Generally these solicitations are for services such as construction, training, maintenance, etc. There are also many postings for IT equipment and services.

The greatest challenge for a business interested in direct contracting with the government is sorting through the tens of thousands of solicitations to find the ones that are appropriate for your business. FED Navigator solves this problem by making available two on-line government contract search and filter services, DIBBS Navigator and SAM Navigator. Either service is available for $45/month or you can get both for $60 - No contract. Click either of the buttons below to see how these sites can work for you.
